Jeremy: “It is our ancestor’s land, not yours.”
March 30, 2016
Dear Jo-Ellen Darcy & The Army Corps of Engineers,
My name is Jeremy Lester Jr. and I’m 14 years old. I am from Standing Rock Sioux Nation. I’m writing this letter because my dad has land underwater beside the spot where you’re going to build the Dakota Access Pipeline. My family fishes in that river. The water is probably the only good thing about the Standing Rock Nation.
The pipeline will cause murderers to murder; the drug and alcoholic problem on the reservation will rise. Our water supply comes from the Missouri River. If that pipeline breaks, the oil and chemicals will flow all the way down to Mobridge, SD or further depending upon how bad the spill is. So please, do not build the pipeline. Many people will try and stop the pipeline from being built.
I hope this letter will prevent the pipeline from being built. Besides it should be the Native American’s decision. It is our land and has been our land since day one. It is our ancestor’s land, not yours.
